Varane opens United account
Raphael Varane opened his account for Manchester United during the Reds’ 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday evening.
Leading 2-0 following Bruno Fernandes’ first-half opener and Cristiano Ronaldo’s second-half penalty, Varane completed the scoring in the 72nd minute with his first United goal.
The Frenchman stretched out a leg to connect with Alex Telles’ corner from the left and, with the help of a deflection, volleyed the ball into the net at the Stretford End.
It capped off a winning effort for the Reds in our final home match of the 2021/22 campaign.

This one did count however and meant that Rapha was on target for the club in our final Old Trafford outing of the season, having been unveiled as a new signing in our opening-day fixture against Leeds in M16, following his summer move from Real Madrid.
Our no.19’s effort in the closing stages was also his first goal since he struck twice in Los Blancos' 2-1 La Liga win at Huesca in February 2021.
The defender's maiden United strike means he now has 25 career goals at senior level.
17 of those previously came during his time in Madrid, while the Frenchman scored twice with his first professional club RC Lens. Varane also has five goals at international level for France.
Nice one, Rapha!
