Bruno nets 50th United goal

Monday 02 May 2022 20:51

Bruno Fernandes netted his 50th goal for Manchester United during the first half of our Premier League 3-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

The midfielder was in the right place at the right time, racing into the centre of the penalty area before connecting with Anthony Elanga’s pull-back and finding the net with a first-time volley.

Coming in the ninth minute, the effort broke the deadlock in our final home outing of the season. Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty doubled the advantage after half-time before Raphael Varane completed the scoring late on with his maiden United strike.

After making the switch from Lisbon to Manchester in January 2020, Fernandes netted 12 times in the second half of the 2019/20 season, with his first goal in Red coming from the penalty spot against Watford at Old Trafford.

The following campaign, Bruno topped United’s goalscoring charts across all competitions, netting 28 times in total.

In 2021/22, Fernandes has added another 10 to reach the half-century mark and brought up the said 50 with a precise strike in front of the East Stand at the Theatre of Dreams, against Brentford, the same end at which he opened his United account exactly 799 days earlier.
The midfielder’s 50 goals, along with his 39 assists for the club, now mean he has 89 direct goal contributions in total since arriving in M16.

Since making his United debut in February 2020, only Mohamed Salah (73) and Harry Kane (65) have been involved in more Premier League goals than him too (61).
Fernandes strikes in the opening 10 minutes of our 2021/22 home finale.
