Varane squad number revealed
As you may know by now, Manchester United's new signing Raphael Varane will wear the no.19 shirt at Old Trafford this season.
The French World Cup winner has now officially joined the Reds from Real Madrid and adds to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's defensive options heading into the season.
Varane will take the same shirt number as the one he first had with Real after his move from Lens back in 2011 - a time when Sir Alex Ferguson and United were also looking to sign the then 18-year-old.
The four-time Champions League winner also had two other numbers while with the Spanish giants, the no.2 and the no.5.
The last occupier of the no. 19 at United was Ivory Coast forward Amad but the Ivorian will now wear 16.
We've also had new numbers for goalkeeper Tom Heaton who will wear the no.22, and youngsters Anthony Elanga (36) and Shola Shoretire (47).
The jersey has played host to a number of notable United players in the past including Marcus Rashford from 2016-2018 and also goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar in the 2005/06 campaign.
Other past wearers include the likes of Academy graduates Danny Welbeck and Nicky Butt as well as Dwight Yorke in 98/99 and 01/02.
Reds fans could get to see the 28-year-old in the new jersey on Sunday when we make the trip to St Mary’s to face Southampton (kick off 14:00 BST) but, for now, you can get your Varane shirt here.
