Rasmus Hojlund

Hojlund wins Premier League award

Friday 08 March 2024 11:00

Congratulations to Rasmus Hojlund, who has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for February.

The Dane scored five goals across United’s four games during the month, as we beat Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Aston Villa and Luton Town. A home defeat to Fulham closed out February, although Hojlund did miss that – and the subsequent Emirates FA Cup victory at Nottingham Forest – through injury.

Rasmus had already claimed the club’s version of the prize but was also able to see off serious competition from the likes of England internationals Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka to be named the division’s best for the first time.

And the 21-year-old was delighted to receive the accolade at Carrington earlier this week.

“I’m very happy,” he told club media on Wednesday.

“Of course, it’s a big privilege to get this award, especially with the other contenders who were nominated as well.

“So yeah, I’m very grateful and happy for the award.”

It was a memorable month in more ways than one for the former Atalanta forward, who netted on his 21st birthday and became the youngest player to score in six straight Premier League fixtures.

Since opening his top-flight account for United on Boxing Day, he’s failed to find the net just once in all competitions and it's clear he is really starting to hit his stride in England now.

“I always like to say I have the confidence before I go into the game,” the Dane added. “Of course, you get a little bit more momentum going into the game when you’ve scored.

“You feel like you’re in good form and in a good flow and you just want the next game to come. They can’t come fast enough!”

So, with five goals to choose from, which was Rasmus’s favourite from February?

“[I’m scoring] all types of goals, but my favourite one probably has to be the chested one against Luton, which I really liked,” he replied.

“When you’re in a good flow, these things just come more naturally to you, I think.

“I was probably not aiming to put it that well into the goal, but I was quite impressed by my own thought, like trying to get my body towards the goal and trying to see if I could actually get something out of it, which I ended up doing it to perfection, I would say.”

With five goals in four games, it’s no surprise Rasmus Hojlund has been chosen as our Player of the Month...

The timing of Hojlund’s injury was unfortunate, given his form and the fact that the Reds have a perfect record when starting Marcus Rashford on the left of him and Alejandro Garnacho on the right.

There’s growing chemistry between the trio and that’s helping the team as a whole, believes Rasmus, who has to thank his colleagues for their contribution to his award too.

“I think, also in training, we’re starting to understand each other and each other’s patterns and we also have the freedom by the manager to kind of change positions during the game as well.

“I think our strengths suit each other quite well so, yeah, I’m grateful towards them and the rest of my team-mates, also from the middle and behind.

“Like all these sort of things, I just want to get in there in the right positions for the team and try to win something.”
