Hojlund tops speed chart for Reds

Rasmus Hojlund wasted little time in displaying his explosive pace at Manchester United.

The Denmark international, who made two substitute appearances for his country in the recent Euro 2024 qualifiers, may only have been introduced in the 67th minute of our 3-1 defeat at Arsenal, but he made a positive impact.

Something that caught the eye was a burst of acceleration to try to provide an option for Marcus Rashford during a breakaway raid and now the Premier League have published their first set of figures for the top speeds registered during the opening four round of matches.

Hojlund not only showcased his sprinting capabilities but also his strength and aggression, in making life difficult for the Arsenal defenders.

The promising cameo has left fans eager for another look at the Scandinavian striker, with a potential home debut on the cards this Saturday, when Brighton & Hove Albion provide the opposition in a 15:00 BST kick-off at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old's figure of 35.45 km/h means he is the fastest Red so far in 2023/24, with Alejandro Garnacho just behind in second, with his best mark posted in the defeat at Tottenham.

Academy graduate Anthony Elanga, who joined Nottingham Forest in the summer, also features on the list published on the official Premier League website.

Marcus Rashford recorded our best speed in the 2022/23 season (35.95 km/h) and will be safe bet to get himself into the frame again as the campaign unfolds.

Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke leads the way, at present, with 36.10 km/h, ahead of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
