Hojlund works on pitches at Carrington

Rasmus Hojlund was out on the training pitch at Carrington today (Wednesday) as Manchester United's new signing continues to make progress towards full fitness.

The arrival of the 20-year-old Denmark international striker was announced prior to Saturday’s friendly win against Lens and Hojlund was paraded on the pitch before kick-off at Old Trafford.

Our new man was not involved in that game, or Sunday’s meeting with Athletic Club in Dublin, having sustained a minor injury during pre-season training with Atalanta.

That issue is expected to keep him out for a few weeks, but the club is managing his recovery with an individual programme.

Part of that involved Rasmus working out on the grass at our training ground today and he is recovering well, according to manager Erik ten Hag.

“Of course he's available and he's here so you have the option to play, but we don't expect him in that short notice to be 100 per cent fit,” Erik told Sky Sports’ Melissa Reddy on Tuesday.

“So we have to wait sometime more.

“We need all positions doubled because of the number of games.

“It's difficult to say how that process will go, but I think he's making good progress at this moment.

“We have to see day by day how the progress will go, then we have to follow up.”

The manager could provide a further update on our new striker in Friday’s press conference, where he will also preview our Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves parted company with manager Julen Lopetegui on Tuesday, just six days before the campaign begins at Old Trafford (20:00 BST kick-off).
