Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claps the United fans after his team's 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar

Solskjaer: This is a good point for us

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was satisfied with a point as Manchester United were held to a goalless draw against AZ Alkmaar in The Hague.

In a cagey match of few chances, Marcus Rashford was denied a possible penalty in the second half, while David De Gea produced two decent saves to thwart Oussama Idrissi and Owen Wijndal and ensure the Reds go back to Manchester still unbeaten in European competition this season.

Speaking to MUTV, the boss analysed the game overall, discussed the performance of Brandon Williams on his first senior start and provided an update on Jesse Lingard after the substitute pulled up with an injury.

FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES

“It [AZ] is a team that’s just beaten Feyenoord 3-0 away from home. We’ve been to Feyenoord ourselves over the years, so this is a good performance and a good point against a good opponent on a very difficult or a bad surface.”

The boss reacts to our Europa League stalemate, in his post-match interview for MUTV...

WE SHOULD HAVE HAD A PENALTY

“I just couldn’t believe what I saw. Same as [the game against] Arsenal. You know, the handball, when it should have been 2-0. It’s just frustrating for us now, not getting these little things because the boys deserved so much more and that’s what I feel for them. It’s going to turn at one point, they’ll get those decisions and then they’ll get the results they deserve.”

WILLIAMS IMPRESSED AT LEFT-BACK

“Top class, top performance for a full debut. You’re just so happy for him, you know, he’s got no fear. He’s brave, he wants the ball, he takes people on, he tackles, he’s physical. I'm very happy for him.”

WE’RE ON TRACK IN EUROPE

“If you get your draws away from home and you win your home games you’ll be fine. Of course, we’re going to go to Belgrade hoping to get a win. That sets us up nicely.”

UPDATE ON LINGARD

“Yeah I think he felt his hamstring a little bit. I don’t think it’s too bad. [When could he be fit?] Probably not [the] Newcastle [game] but he could be ready for Liverpool.”
