Harry Maguire protests after being sent off at Bournemouth.

Harry's red-card repercussion

Monday 23 March 2026 09:30

Harry Maguire faces a wait before marking a personal career milestone, after his sending off in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth on Friday.

The centre-back, currently on international duty with England, following a recall for the friendlies against Uruguay and Japan during the break, is suspended for one game after his challenge on Evanilson was deemed a denial of a goalscoring opportunity at the Vitality Stadium.

Eli Junior Kroupi converted the penalty but the Reds held out, despite a lengthy period of stoppage time, to register an important point in the quest for a place in next season's UEFA Champions League.

The result kept us in third spot, heading into the long pause in top-flight action, although Aston Villa are only a point behind in fourth, on the back of their 2-0 home win over West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS | The Reds approached a lengthy break in domestic action with a tough away test against Bournemouth...

Maguire must sit out the Old Trafford encounter with Leeds United on Monday 13 April, which will be a particular source of frustration for the Yorkshireman.

There will also be a delay before the centre-back hits 600 club appearances during his distinguished career.

The outing on the south coast was his 599th after making his senior debut for his boyhood side, Sheffield United.

Maguire has also represented Hull City, Wigan Athletic (on loan) and Leicester City, ahead of moving to Old Trafford in the summer of 2019.

He has weighed in with an impressive 38 goals, 25 of which have come at league level.

In terms of his time at United, Harry has amassed 266 appearances and will now hope to hit his personal landmark in the away game at Chelsea on Saturday 18 April. He scored his first Premier League goal for the Reds at Stamford Bridge in February 2020.
