Relive United Women's first derby win

Friday 17 November 2023 16:30

We’re all set for Sunday’s big Women’s Super League derby between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford.

After six games, unbeaten United sit third in the table and two points above our rivals, who will be looking for a response after losing their last two games.

To mark the encounter, our latest limited-edition digital collectible is now available to claim – just visit collectibles.manutd.com or read on for more details.

City were already established as one of the top women’s sides in the world when United earned promotion back to the top flight in 2018. The derbies have nearly always been tight affairs since then and we’re unbeaten in our last three of them.

But it wasn’t until the most recent encounter with the Blues, at Leigh Sports Village in May, that the Reds finally claimed the bragging rights with a first derby triumph that kept us in contention for the 2022/23 WSL title.

That afternoon, Hayley Ladd gave Marc Skinner’s side the perfect start with an early rocket and City were reduced to 10 players before half-time when goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck was sent off for clattering into Nikita Parris.

However, with 20 minutes to go, City got themselves level with a goal out of nothing, as Filippa Angeldahl’s cross wrong-footed Mary Earps and dropped in at the back post.

It seemed United would be denied in front of a record crowd but in stoppage time, substitute Lucia Garcia fired through a crowd of City players to snatch a memorable victory, highlights of which you can watch below.
