Keane exchanges United shirt with ex-NFL star
Manchester United legend Roy Keane was in attendance at Monday night’s National Football League (NFL) game in New Jersey, with a special piece of apparel to hand.
Our former captain, who starred in the launch video of our new adidas third kit last month, swapped one of the red-devil-inspired United shirts with another ex-sporting star, before the fixture between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills in the opening round of the new NFL season.
Retired Jets center Nick Mangold, who enjoyed a commendable 11-season career playing for the New York club between 2006 and 2016, was the recipient, exchanging a ‘Mangold 74’ jersey in return.
The pair then posed for an epic pre-game photo, which you can see above.
Keane is a self-professed American football fan and he went on to the field at the MetLife Stadium to watch the players warm up before proceedings got under way.
Having also been a part of many a dramatic victory during his own playing career, we think Roy will have appreciated the Jets’ stunning game-winning touchdown on the night, scored in overtime by rookie Xavier Gipson.
The encounter was the best-attended game in over five years at the MetLife Stadium, a venue that we happened to visit over the summer, for our Tour 2023 pre-season clash with Arsenal.
It was at that 2-0 victory for Erik ten Hag’s side in New Jersey that another affectionate crossover between the Jets and United took place, as former Jet Laveraneus Coles swapped shirts with his near-namesake and ex-Red Andy Cole. Check out more from that brilliant meet-up, here.

UNITED UNVEIL NEW LFSTLR RANGE
Sharp-eyed supporters may have spotted Keane sporting apparel from our new adidas streetwear collection in the third-kit launch video.
The range, which boats a similar look to this season’s white United strip, launched earlier today (Tuesday), and is available on United Direct now.
A special event was held in New York earlier this week, where those in attendance were treated to a preview of the collection, before its official release.
