Keane to make dramatic United appearance

Saturday 24 September 2022 11:15

Roy Keane is donning his boots again for Manchester United, to make a surprise appearance in today's Legends of the North clash against Liverpool.

Our former captain is representing United's team at Anfield, as we look to overturn a 3-1 deficit from the first leg at Old Trafford, in a game that raised over £1.3 million for the club's Foundation.

The charity clash kicks off at 15:00 BST and this is Roy's first involvement for the side, with the Irishman set to appear alongside the likes of Jaap Stam, Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov.

18 September 2005: Roy Keane unknowingly made his final United appearance, in a feisty draw at Anfield...

The ground was the venue for what turned out to be Keane's final appearance for the club, after so much distinguished service under Sir Alex Ferguson, in September 2005.

The inspirational leader was forced off during the 0-0 draw due to injury, following a challenge with Steven Gerrard, and joined Celtic later that year in December.

Since retiring as a player in the following June, he has managed Ipswich Town and Sunderland, along with being assistant manager of Republic of Ireland, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. He also, of course, has become a hugely popular TV pundit.

United fans will be eager to see Keano turn out for the club again after he joined the squad at their hotel before making the trip to Merseyside.

Andy Ritchie and Roy's former team-mate Andy Cole are in charge of the side and you can follow updates on ManUtd.com and in the United App.

MUTV will be showing highlights of the action from midnight BST.
