Ruben: Unbeaten is not enough

Manchester United will be looking to go six games unbeaten in the Premier League when we welcome Everton to Old Trafford on Monday night.

The run encompasses wins against Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, plus, most recently, draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.

In the second part of his pre-match briefing with journalists at Carrington, Amorim was asked how far he feels the Reds can extend that streak.

PRESS CONFERENCE TWO | Amorim addresses our current run, Academy talents and future transfer thoughts...

"We need to think to be six games unbeaten," the boss said, in response to a question about how far the run can go. "But then unbeaten is not enough.

"I came from these last two games [against Forest and Spurs], especially the last one, very frustrated.

"So, for us, it's not enough. In this club, it doesn't matter the moment, it's not enough to be unbeaten.

"Unbeaten is not everything. We didn't win the last two games, so I think like that."

Amorim clearly will not settle for anything less than perfection, but he would likely admit himself that our fortunes are brighter than when he predicted a storm was coming early in his United tenure last year.

The Portuguese head coach provided hope at the end of the last campaign, addressing those early comments on the Old Trafford pitch, proclaiming that "the good days are coming".

Referencing those comments, Ruben was asked whether he feels this run represents United moving away from those darker times, or if he still fears our form taking a dip.

"I always have that feeling," the boss admitted. "I think it is also my job, especially in our club, to always have that feeling.

"That gives me the sense of urgency in every training that I have. Playing every game in the Premier League, you sense that everything can change so fast because all the teams can win any game and, if you see the bottom [of the table], they have a lot of points.

"Everything can change in one moment, so I don't like to say the storm is over, but we are prepared.

"We are more prepared for any storm in this moment, so let's take this sense of urgency into every game."
