Team news for Villa encounter

Friday 19 December 2025 13:30

Manchester United will be without Casemiro for the trip to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Brazil midfielder's booking in the 4-4 draw with Bournemouth on Monday night means he must serve a one-game suspension.

United are also without the services of Noussair Mazraoui, Amad and Bryan Mbeumo, who are away in Morocco for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking at his press conference to preview the 16:30 GMT kick-off at Villa Park, the head coach also ruled Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire out of the clash.

The central defensive pair are continuing their recovery from injury at Carrington.

"I think everyone is well," he said. "We have one more training [session] but, today, the rest of the lads are ready to go. I'm saying that nobody will recover, nobody is out. Just the guys that you already know."

Amorim suggested Kobbie Mainoo "played really well", when coming off the bench in the game with Bournemouth and the midfielder is obviously an option to come into the starting line-up.

"If he is going to play, he is going to play," added Ruben. "If he is not going to play, he's not going to play."

VILLA'S TEAM NEWS

Unai Emery hopes Emiliano Martinez can return in goal, after missing the wins over Basel and West Ham United.

"Emiliano is progressing well," said the Villa boss. "He is training individually and feeling better, much better. Tomorrow, we will decide if he is available, or not, for Sunday."

Tyrone Mings Pau Torres and Ross Barkley are unavailable and Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott has been struck down by illness.

Winger Jadon Sancho is ineligible due to the fact he is on loan from the Reds.

"Tyrone is still injured," added Emery. "He's getting better. Maybe, in a few weeks, he's again joining us. Pau Torres, more or less, the same. One week or two weeks, something like that. Ross Barkley is still injured, longer than those two players.

"Elliott is sick today. He hasn't trained today, or yesterday as well."

Former Red Victor Lindelof has forced his way into the line-up and could face his old club on Sunday.
