Amorim excited by Old Trafford plans

Ruben Amorim says he feels honoured to lead Manchester United's journey into a new era which could encompass a revamped training ground and a world-class stadium.

Our new head coach is the first permanent appointment in his position since Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed his investment into the club, which kickstarted talk of a regenerated stadium district.

In June, a £50m project to modernise the club's Carrington training base was also announced, while supporters have recently been feeding back to a fan consultation programme around the options for the future of Old Trafford.

Within his first full-length interview – which is available to MUTV subscribers now – Amorim said that the first team was 'the engine' that can drive this period of forward momentum.

FIRST INTERVIEW | It's here! Ruben Amorim’s opening words as United head coach…

"When Manchester United talked to me, Omar told me about their plans and you get excited," he enthused.

"It's a real honour, because I was the first choice to start that path. So it's a great responsibility. But you feel honoured and excited to be part of that.

"We know that if the team plays well and wins games, everything looks so much better and the people really start to believe in the new stadium and new ideas.

"So, we know that we are the engine of the football. Manchester United is the engine of the Premier League, in my opinion."

Asked about why he chose to join the club, Amorim paid particular tribute to United's new chief executive, Omar Berrada, plus sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.

"I felt a connection with the club. And when I say with the club, everybody knows Manchester United. But I feel the connection with the people in the club, and that is very important for me, because I want to work with people that I like and I feel a connection with.

"Of course, I have to say the names. Even Sir Jim and Sir Dave, but especially Omar, Dan and Jason. I felt a connection and I felt we are in the same moment. We want to do something special in this special club. So I think that was a key point.

"The second point is the history of this club. And also the moment. I think all the people are hungry for success and I feel that this is the place that I want to be also because of that, because you can be part of something special, not just one more."

ESSENTIAL VIEWING | In case you missed it, Ruben visited Old Trafford earlier this month for an introductory tour...

Earlier this week, Amorim was given a tour of Old Trafford by club employee Jason Leach, during which he met fans and Manchester United Women's star Ella Toone.

Amorim spoke emotively of the stadium and our club's history, and was keen to stress how it should be wielded to inspire current and future generations of players.

In an unmissable new interview, Ruben has given a "guarantee" to fans about our fixture at Ipswich.

"When you come here, it's so different," he marvelled.

"You see the trophies, you see the tragedy that we have as a club. The history, the way that someone that saved us at the moment. So you can understand the history, after the crash, then we were European champions.

"This kind of strength, I think it is important to put in our team. When the players come here, they should make the same tour with the same guy all the time. I think this is very important to do. It is one thing that you have to feel: that this is Manchester United and it's normal.

"If you are a lot of years without winning, you start losing that. So you have to be very clear on the message that you want to put on the players. So I think we need to put all the players doing the same thing, to regain that feeling."
