Amorim sheds light on De Ligt injury

Ruben Amorim has explained why Matthijs de Ligt is not in the Manchester United squad for the visit of West Ham United.

The Netherlands international was one of two un-named players flagged as doubts before kick-off by the boss during his pre-match press conference at Carrington.

It is the first game he has missed all season, having played every minute of Premier League action and coming on as a substitute in the Carabao Cup tie against Grimsby Town.

Ruben has made three changes to the XI that started at Crystal Palace.

Amorim does hope the problem will not keep the centre-back out of action for too long, with Wolverhampton Wanderers up next on Monday night.

A busy spell follows throughout the month as the festive calendar ramps up.

"It's hard because, if you see that position, especially this year, it's just Harry [Maguire] and Matta playing those positions," he told Premier League Productions.

"It is a blow. He is playing really really well. But I'm really excited with Ayden [Heaven]. He is working there. I think he has the right characteristics to play there.

"It is a big opportunity for everyone to see Ayden.

"For Matta, it is a small thing. I expect to have Matthijs next game [at Molineux]."

Heaven, making his first league start of 2025/26, and Noussair Mazraoui have been selected in defence, alongside Luke Shaw, with Leny Yoro moving to the bench.

Best wishes to Matthijs, here's to a speedy recovery!
