Ruben's update on Bruno and Mason

Sunday 04 January 2026 15:49

Ruben Amorim has hinted that Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount could soon be available for selection again for his Manchester United side.

Fernandes, Mount and Kobbie Mainoo have been sidelined in recent weeks, and their collective absence has been compounded while Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui continue to represent their countries at the African Cup of Nations. Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt have also been recent omissions.

United battled to a 1-1 draw away to Leeds United on Sunday, where two of those who do remain in contention in attacking areas currently – Joshua Zirzkee and goalscorer Matheus Cunha – combined for a well-worked equalising goal at Elland Road.

Asked about the possibility of adding to his squad now that the January transfer window has opened, Amorim instead pointed to the return of players already within our ranks.

The Reds manage a point in Sunday's contest at Elland Road, with Matheus Cunha scoring the equaliser.

"We just focus on the game, let's prepare with the players that we have,” Ruben said in his post-match interview with TNT Sports.

“I expect to have some minutes of maybe Bruno [Fernandes] and Mason Mount, maybe. So, we'll see. We have more too with the quality that we have. There are players ready to help us."

The boss would not be drawn on whether they could return as soon as Wednesday, when we are next in action away to Burnley.

One man who will be available for our trip to East Lancashire is Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, despite the Dane receiving his fifth yellow card of the campaign against Leeds.

Suspensions for players reaching five yellow cards only apply up until the midpoint of the Premier League season, and because Dorgu’s latest caution came in our 20th league outing, he will receive no further ban for his accumulation of bookings.
