Amorim names team to face Saints
Ruben Amorim has named his Manchester United side to face Southampton at Old Trafford.
The head coach is hoping his side back up impressive displays in our two matches since the turn of the year, at Liverpool and Arsenal, by collecting three points in our opening home fixture of 2025.
With the Reds desperate to move up from 15th in the table, and the visitors in real need of cutting the eight-point gap to 19th-placed Leicester City, there is a lot at stake this evening.
Diogo Dalot is suspended, following his red card at Arsenal in the Emirates FA Cup third-round triumph at the weekend, so his left wing-back slot is likely to go to Noussair Mazraoui, although Lisandro Martinez could also operate there.
Amad is recalled and appears certain to be reverting to the opposite wing-back role, with Leny Yoro in for Harry Maguire, who was ill in the lead-up to the Arsenal game and withdrawn with fatigue in extra-time.
Andre Onana is back in place of the Man of the Match against the Gunners, Altay Bayindir.
"Harry is tired and he had a tough week," Amorim explained to TNT Sports. "I think Southampton will play without a striker and with more speed in front. Leny is a quick player and he is a top talent. He is ready to cope with the demands of the game."
