Team news for United v Southampton
Manchester United will be without Diogo Dalot for Thursday’s Premier League clash with Southampton at Old Trafford.
The full-back is serving a one-match suspension, following his red card in the Emirates FA Cup victory at Arsenal.
Dalot’s absence – the first time he’s missed a United match all season – gives Ruben Amorim a decision to make at left wing-back, where the Portuguese defender has been featuring in recent weeks.
Tyrell Malacia could be an option, as he played well after coming on there as a substitute against the Gunners, while Noussair Mazraoui could switch sides and leave the right flank available for a more attacking player, like Amad, Alejandro Garnacho or Antony.
The need to change is something Amorim is choosing to see as a positive.
Dalot to lose ever-present status
ArticleDiogo will serve a one-game suspension, following his red card at Arsenal.
“That is really important, to have these opportunities to see other players, to change the team sometimes to have fresh legs, fresh minds. So it’s an opportunity for another player," Amorim told MUTV.
“We just have some doubts on players who were really tired in the last game.
“We cannot afford to lose players for many games and our players are ready to cope with the demands of the game. There are no changes in the players available.”
Toby Collyer played left-back for the Reds against Barnsley in September, his last senior outing before an impressive cup cameo for the youngster in north London.
The boss has been impressed by the 21-year-old midfielder’s showings at Carrington after returning from injury and says he is an option for the meeting with the top-flight’s bottom side.
“He’s here training with the team,” Ruben added.
“He’s part of the squad and he has really good abilities, he has really good pace, he’s really humble and he works a lot, so he’s one more option.”
Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are both still out, having last featured in the Carabao Cup defeat at Tottenham.
Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are continuing their recovery at Carrington, with both players sidelined of late.
Altay Bayindir was the hero in goal at Arsenal, but Andre Onana has played all 58 Premier League fixtures since joining United in the summer of 2023.

SOUTHAMPTON TEAM NEWS
Ivan Juric secured his first victory as Saints manager on Sunday, when Tyler Dibling’s double helped the south-coast club beat Swansea City 3-0 in the Emirates FA Cup. Kamaldeen Sulemana scored his first goal for the Saints in 20 months and Juric said ‘this is a new beginning’ for the Ghana international.
Juric largely stuck with his league XI for the fixture, with Ryan Manning and Mateus Fernandes the only replacements, for Nathan Wood and Paul Onuachu, after the 5-0 home reverse to Brentford.
Jack Stephens, who was sent off in our 3-0 win at St Mary’s Stadium in September, will miss the game through injury, while Ross Stewart is also sidelined. Flynn Downes has just started training again following the thigh issue he suffered on Boxing Day.
"We'll see if he is ready to start... or later on," added Juric.
