Amorim: Why Amad impressed me
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was asked about the performance of Amad following our 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town on Sunday, after the no.16 provided the assist for Marcus Rashford's early opener.
The Ivorian jinked his way down the Ipswich left – exploiting the space afforded to him in a new role at right wing-back, before finding Rashford in the middle.
Our no.10 opened the scoring after less than two minutes, with Amad joining Rashford for the latter's trademark celebration in the corner.
But it wasn't just Amad's attacking threat that impressed Amorim, as he detailed in his post-match press conference.
"I think he was very good," said the boss.
"[In] these three days he has improved so much defensively. But also the opponent that he had all the time was the left-back. So it is like a winger that follows the left-back.
"It is so much easier, I think, because he doesn't have to think: 'Can I jump in the centre-back?' He just follows his man and goes back with the same man. It is like man-to-man in that aspect.
Another journalist commented on the quality our no.16 displayed to carve out Rashford's goal, which Amorim agreed with, adding further praise for Amad.
"I think he was so focused on everything," he said.
"I think he did a great job."
