Amorim: We must score to win games
Ruben Amorim could not hide his frustration that his Manchester United team were better than Wolves but still ended up on the losing side.
Pablo Sarabia’s 77th-minute free-kick condemned the Reds to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford, where the much-changed Reds had numerous goalscoring opportunities but could not capitalise upon them.
Ruben rotated the squad to freshen things up following Thursday’s epic extra-time victory over Lyon in the Europa League and was impressed with debutant Tyler Fredricson and fellow youngster Harry Amass.

Amorim: Youngsters don’t deserve this result
Ruben Amorim praised the performances of two Reds but said a lack of goals continues to cost United…
YOU HAVE TO SCORE TO WIN
“It’s easy to review this game. They scored in the only opportunity they had, we had many chances and we didn’t score. If you don’t score goals, you are not going to win games. It’s really frustrating to be better than the opponent, create chances but then lose the game.”
ROTATING THE SQUAD
“That’s the idea [to protect players and give minutes to others]. That is not our focus. Our focus is to win games. Of course we need to protect players from this sequence, thinking about the Europa League also but we need to have more points on the table.”
LACK OF GOALS OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM
"We have to score goals. We need to improve in that area of the game clearly. If you don't score goals, you don't win games. I think the biggest problem is the lack of goals. We are not scoring. We are creating chances but we are not scoring. I think it's also the moment [why we're missing] sometimes but I don't know how to explain. But we need to improve in that area.”
NO MOTIVATION NEEDED TO PLAY FOR UNITED
“We play for Manchester United so we have all the responsibility on you. You don't need to know motivation to play for this club. We need to fight for wins, score goals and try to get more points. We created chances. We were the better team on the pitch. That is a good sign but it's hard to take something positive in this moment. We need to win games and we should have more points.”

PRAISE FOR FREDRICSON AND AMASS
"I think they played really well. We need to score goals so that the kids have better memories. These days are really disappointing. We were better than the opponents but if you don't score goals, you don't win games. They deserve better memories from their first game. They did so many good things but people will just remember the result. That is the price of playing for a massive club like this.”
WE HAVE TO WORK TO BE BETTER NEXT SEASON
“This season is going to end like this. We need to take the positives, try to work on the things we need to improve. Again, I think I've been saying this for a quite a while. They will have one chance because this is the Premier League. We need to score goals. We have to work and try to be better in the first game of next season. That's in the past. When you play for a big club like this, you win one game, one stage in the Europa League, but let's move on. We were the better team on the pitch. Like we did so many times this season, we had some good moments but then setbacks. So one more but it's really frustrating. Sometimes, it's when our opponents are really better but today you can feel it, we had the game in our hands.”
WE MUST RECOVER AND PREPARE
“Now we are going to recover from this sequence and then we are going to return to prepare Bournemouth and also the Europa League.”
