Ruben Amorim expects Luke Shaw to be a key member of his Manchester United line-up in the future.

The England international posted an emotional message on social media after his comeback was cut short, with a small, fresh problem returning him to the sidelines.

It ruled the defender out of the Premier League trip to Arsenal but the no.23 is determined to be available again soon, and Amorim has made it clear that he is willing to wait as long as it takes to welcome him back into the side.

Ahead of kick-off at the Emirates Stadium, the head coach was asked what he had said to the 29-year-old.

The United defender has released the following statement.

"What I said to him, as a coach is, that since I am here, I saw him in the medical department," Amorim told Amazon Prime Video. "I saw him in the gym. I saw him losing weight. I saw him training.

"So he did everything right. Sometimes, when you have one or two injuries, it's really hard to recover.

"If he continues with this behaviour, doing everything he can, I will be here. All the staff will be here, as long as it takes.

"We believe a lot in him, he's so important for our team. For the future, I see in this team, Luke is a very important player for us."

Shaw has operated as a left-sided central defender since Amorim took charge, but is obviously able to play as a wing-back too.

The long-serving Red has the best wishes of everybody at the club as he bids to regain fitness again, with the side facing a hectic schedule as the festive period approaches.
