McTominay injury concern for weekend

Thursday 18 February 2021 21:05

Manchester United's Scott McTominay could be a doubt for the weekend after coming off during the 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad in Turin.

The midfielder, who has been in terrific form, was a dynamic presence again and almost scored when forcing a smart save out of Alejandro Remiro in the first half of the Europa League tie.

However, he had been a doubt for the match beforehand and had to power through as the opening 45 minutes wore on, despite perhaps not feeling 100 per cent.

Nonetheless, Scott soldiered on and was still influential before being withdrawn on the hour-mark for Nemanja Vidic, in a move that was seemingly planned.

There was no point risking the Scotland international further and we must wait to see if he will be available again for Sunday's Premier League home match against Newcastle United. He was recently substituted with a stomach problem in the 0-0 draw with Arsenal.

Paul Pogba will miss out against the Magpies as he continues his recovery from a thigh problem, while Edinson Cavani and Donny van de Beek did not make the flight to Italy.

Phil Jones has also been unavailable due to his long-term injury but Amad made his senior debut as a late substitute at the Allianz Stadium.

Newcastle welcome Jeff Hendrick back from suspension for the 19:00 GMT kick-off but Javier Manquillo, Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson are all out for Steve Bruce's men.
