McTominay: We controlled the game really well

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay praised the manner in which the Reds controlled the proceedings against Brentford on Wednesday evening, following our 1-0 success at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford's first-half goal proved to be the difference between the two sides, as Erik ten Hag's men bounced back following our loss against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The contest was a competitive one, with David De Gea's wonderful save in the second half denying Kevin Schade, while the Reds had openings of our own against a stern Brentford side.

Insisting the motivation behind tonight's triumph stemmed from our defeat on Tyneside last time out, Scott was quick to praise the spirit and desire he and his team-mates showed across the 90 minutes.

McTominay: We fought hard for that

Scott McTominay felt United really had to dig in to secure all three points against Brentford...

"That's what the message was, to bounce back and I thought the play in the first-half was pretty good," began the midfielder, as he spoke to MUTV post-match.

"We controlled the game really well and in the second half, we lacked that bit of composure in the final third. I thought we really fought hard tonight as they are a really tough team to play against, they had only lost one in 16 or something like that against some top teams.

"For us it's fighting and digging in and we have lots of games coming up, I think there is a game every three days for the foreseeable future until the end of the season. It's a squad game and we have some good players coming back which is good and that's important."

Given the Reds are set for yet another busy month of action across three separate fronts, Ten Hag's side still have another seven games to come as we bid to progress even further in both the Emirates FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League, as well as chase down a top-four spot in the Premier League.

Believing the squad is fully aware of the task at hand, our no.39 spoke further on just how packed the Reds' schedule is between now and the season's conclusion.

"We were totting it all up the other day and I think it's 16 [games] now if we get to all the finals and fingers crossed we do as we have a great squad to go and compete for all the trophies as well," Scott said.

''That's something that the manager has firmly reiterated to us that it is a squad game, and we all have to dig in towards the end of the season to try and win three trophies which would be incredible."

Returning to the top four in the Premier League, here are our takeaways from a hard-fought victory over the Bees.

Reflecting on yet another impressive display for Rashford, McTominay spoke about how our no.10's motivation to find the net continues to grow, despite his impressive tally of 28 strikes already this season.

"We need him all the time and he is the type of the player, Marcus, where [he] is not just settled with how many goals he has now,"he said.

"The manager is demanding, he wants more from him and we all do as well, but the same with us we have to share the goals around and me, myself, I could have had a couple tonight but that's football."
