McTominay voted Player of the Month

Tuesday 30 April 2019 17:00

Scott McTominay has been voted as Manchester United's Player of the Month for the first time.

The 21-year-old midfielder has landed the accolade after scoring his first senior goal against Wolves and for playing excellently in our Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona.

It was a closely fought poll on the Official Manchester United App with Scott edging it with 40 per cent of the vote, followed by defenders Luke Shaw (35 per cent) and Victor Lindelof (25 per cent).

Well done to Scott, and thank you to everyone that voted in this month's poll.

Scott received the Player of the Month trophy on Wednesday.

April started brilliantly for McTominay with the Academy graduate scoring his first senior goal for United in his 41st appearance for the club with a low drive from 22 yards. Ultimately, the game ended in defeat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reds but Scott was happy to open his account at senior level.

“It’s so important for you to get off and running for your football club,” the 22-year-old said after the match.

“You watch players like [Paul] Scholes and [Michael] Carrick and midfield players like that coming through and that’s who you want to emulate."

Arguably McTominay's best performance during April was our Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona. Up against one of the most talented midfields in Europe, Scott produced a Man of the Match display, showing his capabilities in keeping Ivan Rakitic, Arthur and Sergio Busquets at bay, while also staying close to Lionel Messi.

Scott bagged his first senior goal for United in our 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on 2 April.

When Ole spoke to the media, he believed Scott was responsible for helping the Reds settle after conceding an early goal against the Spanish giants at Old Trafford.

"It was a fantastic game for Scott. Every time he plays for us, he is improving. He was composed and brought the ball down a few times. He started settling us, to be fair.

"He's a great athlete, he can run all day long. He wins challenges and he's quick on his feet."

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says

“He comes into the training ground every day with a fantastic attitude and that’s the way to improve. Every time he plays for us he is improving."
