Shaw: Our full focus is now on Brighton

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw believes the Reds must waste no time in being ready and prepared for Tuesday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

United were held to a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday, with Che Adams's second-half strike cancelling out Jadon Sancho’s opener.

Ralf Rangnick’s side have now drawn their last two Premier League games by the same scoreline [1-1], and it has not really helped the push for a top-four place.

Shaw is under no illusions that it is imperative the side start getting more points on the board.

''We know it's a massive game against Brighton on Tuesday so our full focus needs to be on that,'' the 26-year-old told club media.

''We know we will have the fans behind us but we also know it's up to us to do it on the pitch.

''The training’s going well and we know what we need to do when we get on the pitch. So, you know, it's down to us to give everything when we step onto the pitch.

''That starts by winning that game because we need to.''

United started well against the Saints, Shaw's former club, but were unable to take maximum points.

Here's what the boss had to say after Saturday's disappointing result.

The England international has not shied away from the importance of finishing in the top four, which remains the main aim domestically.

''I still don't think we were as good as we can be and that’s not good enough for us because we have to improve fast and improve quick," he added.

''Like I said, we have to achieve our goals this season and, with what we have left, we have to get into the Champions League.''
