Awujo: Signing here is crazy – I’m a United fan!
Manchester United Women midfielder Simi Awujo could not stop smiling while sitting down with club media for her first interview as a Red recently.
The Canada international, who was born in the United States, joined Marc Skinner’s side earlier this summer and it is fair to say that she is delighted to have signed for the club she has followed since being a youngster.
In her signing chat, Awujo explains how it feels to have made the move to Manchester ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
“It’s kind of surreal,” Simi begins, speaking in a conversation that you can now enjoy below.
Simi Awujo | Welcome to United
AWUJO'S FIRST INTERVIEW | United Women's new midfielder can't wait to represent the club she's supported all her life...
“It’s one of the most historical clubs in the word. Growing up, watching the Premier League and football and coming to England to see family, those played a big part in my decision."
The 20-year-old officially fulfilled her United dream when she completed her transfer last month, having previously represented FC Premier Women in the USA, and has since had the opportunity to begin getting to know her new team-mates.
Awujo was a member of the travelling party for the recent pre-season camp in Marbella, as she prepares for her first season in England on the back of representing Canada – a nation she is eligible to play for through her mother – at the summer Olympics in Paris.
“I honestly feel like I’ve been here forever because everyone is so welcoming and so nice.
“It’s been really nice to see the bunch of new faces and to also just feel welcome within those new faces, it’s really nice.”

Simi and her United colleagues are currently building up to the beginning of our Women’s Super League season, which begins against West Ham at Old Trafford on Saturday 21 September.
As a childhood Red, and someone who has previously been to our historic home as a fan, it may not come as a surprise that Awujo is thrilled by the prospect of making her debut for the club in M16, later this month.
“That’s really, really exciting. Obviously, there’s so much history around that stadium, there’s so much history around this club and for us to be able to play our first match of the season in the stadium is surreal.
“Obviously, I’ve been to Old Trafford as a kid, and I never thought I would be able to be on the pitch with my team at Old Trafford.”
