Amrabat confident of United improvement
Sofyan Amrabat acknowledges that Manchester United have been through difficult moments this season, but that hard work will be the key to an improvement in our form.
The 27-year-old has experienced a mixed start to his spell with the Reds, from the highs of Saturday’s comeback win over Brentford to disappointing home defeats against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.
There have been mitigating circumstances of course, not least a defensive injury crisis which resulted in Sofyan’s first four appearances all coming at left-back, rather than in his usual midfield role.
Amrabat has been able to take stock ahead of the international break and the on-loan Fiorentina man is positive that United will get better as the campaign plays out.
“I think I can say a lot of things, but I don't want to use them as an excuse,” Sofyan said in a recent interview with Premier League Productions, when asked about our start to 2023/24.
“I think in life, but also in football, it never goes always only good, or top. You always have a moment that maybe it will be a little bit difficult, and now I think it's a bit like that at the moment.
“But we just started. We still have a very long season, a long way [to go]. I think we have played good games [and had] a lot of positive and good things.
“Maybe with a bit more luck, we’d have won the games that we didn't win. So I have a lot of confidence and I think yeah, we work very hard every day.
“Nobody will give it to you. You have to work for it. But we work very hard and I believe it will be fine. It will be good.”
Sofyan, who is expected to win his 50th international cap during Saturday’s friendly with Ivory Coast, has worked with Erik ten Hag previously while the pair were at Utrecht in the Netherlands.
He is therefore accustomed to the demands of the Dutchman but says progress at his current club will come with time and patience.
“We train a lot, with what the manager asks of us and the way he wants to play,” the Morocco midfielder added.
“We put a lot of time and energy into that and, like I said, there are a lot of good things. Of course, we are not perfect yet, but I think nobody’s perfect. It needs time.
“But I think also it’s the results. If the results come, it will be only faster that the confidence will grow. That’s football, it’s like that.”
