Alex Telles

Ole confirms extended lay-off for Telles

Tuesday 27 July 2021 16:00

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Alex Telles is likely to be out until September.

The Brazilian has been part of the Reds’ pre-season squad since the start of July but picked up an ankle injury during last week’s training camp in Surrey, which led to him missing Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to Queens Park Rangers in London.

Solskjaer initially predicted that the full-back would be sidelined ‘for a few weeks’, but it now looks like being at least a month until we see the 28-year-old in action again, with Telles potentially set to miss our opening three Premier League fixtures.

Alex Telles has thanked fans for their support after he was forced to miss Saturday's game.

“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for, his ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think,” Solskjaer told club media.

With Luke Shaw still on holiday after helping England reach the Euro 2020 final, Brandon Williams was given the nod to start at left-back at the weekend.

Diogo Dalot, who returned to training this week and may be on the bench for Wednesday’s clash with Brentford, is also an option there and Solskjaer believes he can count on his youngsters.

“That is football. We’ve got kids wanting to play of course. Brandon has done well in the left-back position,” the boss added.

Dean Henderson is not yet ready to return after injury, while Bruno Fernandes will also miss out after only returning to training on Tuesday.
