Why Maguire is out of the Derby match

Harry Maguire missed Manchester United's trip to Derby County due to an ankle problem, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed.

In his pre-match interview with MUTV, the boss reported:

“I had a word with him before training yesterday to say I'm not going to rest him. But then he rolled his ankle in training so he had to stay at home.

“Hopefully he'll be okay for the weekend but I'm not sure.”

Solskjaer went on to reveal that Maguire's fellow signings in last summer's transfer window, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James, are also injury doubts for United's next match - the home Premier League derby against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

Referring to his much-changed team for tonight's match at Pride Park, Ole admitted:
“There are a couple of players who are getting the chance to stake a claim for the derby because I'm not sure if Harry, Dan or Aaron are going to be available.

“So there are chances [tonight] for a few.”
Maguire has started United's previous 12 matches in a row. Hopefully the last one he missed won't be an omen for Sunday - it was the home leg against City in the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The Reds skipper expressed his disappointment at being ruled out of tonight's game when he tweeted this message ahead of kick-off:
