Solskjaer eyes up summer business at United

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his squad in the summer to catch up with newly crowned Premier League title winners Manchester City.

The Reds' 2-1 Old Trafford defeat to Leicester City means we can no longer catch our Manchester neighbours and ensures Pep Guardiola’s Blues win the 2020/21 crown as a result.

Solskjaer already has his eyes on some business in the close season to step up the challenge even further come August at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

However, the boss was happy that United had stretched the title race into the final fortnight of the season.

Ole wants to add to his squad to challenge City for next year's title.

“You know if you want to take up the challenge with them, of course we have to strengthen our squad,” the manager told BT Sport after the match.

“Congratulations to them [City], they have had a fantastic season, but I’m very pleased with my boys because they have made it into the last 10 days of the season with a Man City team ahead of us, lauded as the best in Europe, so we have done well.

“But we want to take the next step and it might be that we need a couple more [players] to have a stronger squad.”

Solskjaer accepted hunting down the Blues is not going to be an easy task but one he is up for leading.

“Yeah, that’s a long process," he added. "We know what we want to do. I think, you know, congratulations to City for winning the league. That’s where we want to be.

“We’re not there yet they have put the bar where it is and that’s up to us to take the next step," he told a post match press conference.

Ole had to dig deep into his current squad to cope with the strain of third match in six days against Leicester with a fourth in eight on Thursday against Liverpool.
