Anthony Martial celebrates his goal.

Solskjaer: More goals will come for Martial

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thinks we'll see more goals form Anthony Martial in the coming weeks and months.

The Manchester United striker opened the scoring in our 2-1 win against Aston Villa on New Year's Day, a result that took us level points on points with top-of-the-table Liverpool in the Premier League.

Martial scored 23 goals in all competitions last term, earning him the number one spot in the Reds' goal-scoring chart for 2019/20.

However, this term has been a tough one for the 25-year-old with injuries and a red card against Tottenham Hotspur in October fragmenting his season.

Are we now in a title race? The boss discussed that, plus Martial, Bailly and Amad Diallo when he faced the media...

It has meant the attacker has scored just five times so far and his header against Villa was his first league goal at Old Trafford in 2020/21.

But the style of his brave, diving conversion put a smile on the manager’s face and signalled a potential upturn in his form graph, as Ole indicated after the match.

“I love diving headers," Solskjaer said in his post-match press conference. "I can keep on about that in crossing and finishing sessions. It was a good goal."

“Anthony is going to improve. He’s going to be better and better. He’s had a few chances this season.

"He’s still creating chances, he’s just not had that little bit of luck, margins in front of goal. They’ll come. We saw a better version of Anthony tonight. A more confident one," he added.

Solskjaer also revealed he has had conversations with Martial about his form, but reiterated our no.9's quality and importance.

“We’ve had some chats, of course,” Ole said.

“We have spoken about last season and how important he was for us then and he is going to be important for us this season.

“Player’s form is temporary but when you have got class that is permanent. I think he has proven he is class.

“Now he is getting fitter and fitter and that means he is going to get better and better.”
