Solskjaer's high praise for Wan-Bissaka

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has described Aaron Wan-Bissaka as “one of the best one-against-one defensive full-backs in the world”.

The manager made that remark during his press conference to preview Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Wan-Bissaka has of course become a fans’ favourite for his tackling ability and highlights of his defensive challenges often go viral on social media.

Statistics show that Aaron has made more tackles and blocks than any of his United team-mates during the first 19 matches of this Premier League season, as we reported on Thursday.
“I think Aaron is one of the best one-against-one defensive full-backs in the world,” praised Solskjaer, while speaking to journalists. “I think he’s getting better and better on the ball, he doesn’t give the ball away a lot.”

Asked whether Wan-Bissaka can improve on other areas of his game, Solskjaer backed him to take further strides forward in the coming years and pointed to the development of the more senior Luke Shaw.

“He’s not been asked to venture forward much earlier in his career,” Ole said. “Last season was a learning one for him. You see Luke who is two or three years older and he is really hitting good form now. Aaron, of course, has the time ahead of him and we’ll give him time.

“In a year or two you’ll see a top, top full-back there.”
Wan-Bissaka is usually one of the first names on Solskjaer’s team sheet, but it remains to be seen if the Englishman will feature against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Ole confirmed in his press conference he will make changes for the FA Cup tie, so perhaps this is a chance for Aaron to rest his legs – with the likes of Axel Tuanzebe waiting in the wings.

Line-ups will be officially announced at 16:00 GMT on Sunday.
