Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Solskjaer provides injury update on trio

Sunday 10 January 2021 22:30

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an update on the likelihood of three senior Manchester United players returning to the side against Burnley and Liverpool in the next seven days.

Speaking in the first half of his press conference following the 1-0 FA Cup win over Watford on Saturday, the boss revealed that Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba all missed the game due to injury.

In the second part, Ole was asked about the chances of the trio returning to the fray, for a huge week in which we face Premier League trips to Turf Moor and then Anfield.

“I hope so. I hope all of them for Liverpool anyway,” he told reporters via video link. “I’m not sure if they’ll make the Burnley one, but we have light training tomorrow [Sunday] and we’ll see on Monday.”

The boss was asked about a big week in the Premier League, in part two of his press conference after the Watford game...

Three points against Burnley on Tuesday night would ensure, at least temporarily, that United would move above Liverpool at the league’s summit ahead of Sunday’s mouth-watering trip to Merseyside.

While Ole wasn’t downplaying the importance of the upcoming games, he was keen to highlight there are still plenty of other crucial fixtures to come in the 2020/21 campaign.
“We’re not even halfway through the season yet,” said the boss. “I feel that every game in the Premier League is a challenge, is a test.

“Every game gives you a test - Watford today gave us a test; Burnley is one test, Liverpool is another, then you go to Fulham [the following week] which is a different test again. No-one will remember how the league table looked on 12 January 2021.”

While it wasn’t a vintage performance in the FA Cup win over Watford, Ole was pleased his team responded positively following Wednesday’s Carabao Cup exit against Manchester City, ahead of the double-header of away league fixtures.

“We’ve had good momentum,” he said, in response to a journalist’s question. “We started well again after the disappointment against City.

“[We] bounced back really well with a win and, of course, we want to build momentum again. If we can get a win on Tuesday then if you can win two games in a row, you go into the next game confident.

“Every game in the Premier League is a chance to build some more confidence.”

Ole will brief the media again early on Monday afternoon and you can watch his pre-match press conference in full on ManUtd.com and in the Official App.
