Ole reveals Maguire fitness concern

Saturday 04 January 2020 20:55

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unsure whether Harry Maguire will be fit to play against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

The Reds take on the Blues in the first leg of our Carabao Cup semi-final, and Ole admitted after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers there's concern for Maguire's fitness.

The defender appeared to be limping after a challenge on Wolves’ winger Adama Traore in the first period, with Phil Jones going through an extensive warm-up on the sidelines.

However, Jones’s services weren’t required, as Maguire managed to complete the full 90 minutes.

Despite that, Ole admitted he was close to withdrawing our no.5 during the interval at Molineux.

“I don’t know,” the boss said, when asked by BT Sport whether Maguire would be fit for the Carabao Cup tie.

“We were close to taking him off at half-time, but he battled through. Let’s see how he recovers. We hope so."
Pressed further in a post-match interview with MUTV, he added: “We were not sure if he should continue in the second half, but he was adamant he was going to be OK.

“He struggled a little bit but let's see how he'll recover. It's not many days, it's Sunday, Monday and then we go again Tuesday.”

The England international put in another impressive performance on Saturday evening, as he and partner Victor Lindelof helped the Reds to keep a well-deserved clean sheet by stopping the likes of Traore and second-half substitute Raul Jimenez from scoring.

So far this season, Maguire has only missed four games in all competitions for United and has played every single minute of the club's Premier League fixtures.
