Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial

Solskjaer: I might play all four strikers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford could all fit into the same Manchester United team.

The boss has always been a keen advocate of attacking, attractive football, following in the proud tradition of those who have previously occupied the Old Trafford hotseat.

Since becoming United boss in 2018, Ole has often packed his side full of offensive options, but also recognises the importance of having firepower on the bench, something he knows all too well from his playing days.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup fourth-round encounter with Liverpool, Ole outlined his view that United could field a side with four of our most potent attackers, in Greenwood, Rashford, Martial and Cavani.

Reporters asked the boss about his strikers, Wan-Bissaka and facing Klopp's men again, during his press conference...

“I used to play in a decent team and the gaffer had four centre-forwards at least to choose from and with the four front men we’ve got, we have players to choose from who can get us goals in any game, against any opposition,” he told reporters via video chat.

“I’m very pleased with the ones I’ve got and we’re working hard to get the relationships with all of them so we can use them in different ways and sometimes maybe all four of them will play.”

Last season, Mason, Marcus and Anthony managed 64 goals between them in all competitions. The introduction of Edinson at the start of the campaign has only added more firepower in the attacking areas and the boss feels the quartet will manage to net plenty more times between now and the end of the season.
“I’m very happy with my forwards,” Ole explained. “You’ve got talents like Mason and Marcus and Anthony and the experience of Edinson. It’s great to see them every day in training and in the games they complement each other.

“They’ve all got different attributes. We know this season Marcus has scored about 14, 15 goals and Anthony, Mason and Edi will definitely chip in and score goals.

“Last season, Anthony, Marcus and Mason scored I don’t know how many – 60ish – so we’ve got a front three or four, well those three for many, many years, and Edi can help with his experience for the time that he’s here.”
