Manchester United can confirm that Tahith Chong will leave the club after a permanent transfer was agreed with Birmingham City, subject to registration.

The Netherlands Under-21s international joined United in 2016, initially linking up with the Under-18s before a serious injury caused him to miss 10 months of the 2016/17 campaign.

Chong worked his way back and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2018 after an excellent season across United’s younger age groups, including a debut goal for the Under-23s against Tottenham Hotspur.

Former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Chong his competitive debut for the senior United side in the FA Cup victory over Reading on 5 January 2019.

He went on to become the first player since Giuseppe Rossi to win the Denzil Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year award in the season after scooping the Jimmy Murphy accolade.

Chong gained valuable first-team experience on loan at Werder Bremen and then Club Brugge during 2020/21. He subsequently joined Birmingham on a temporary move last year, but had his momentum halted by a serious groin injury in November.

Tahith made a total of 16 appearances for the Reds' first team, as well as featuring in pre-season friendlies such as this summer's games against Melbourne Victory, Aston Villa and Rayo Vallecano.

The 22-year-old now heads back to St. Andrews and a permanent deal provides him with the opportunity to showcase his talents in the Championship.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tahith for everything he’s achieved at United and wish him the best of luck in his future career.
