Solskjaer arrives for the big clash with Liverpool

Solskjaer makes midfield change to face Liverpool

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made two changes to his Manchester United side to face Liverpool, from the XI who beat Chelsea in the Emirates FA Cup last Monday night.

The Reds' caretaker boss is missing his midfield anchorman Nemanja Matic with an injury and the Serbian’s place is taken by Scott McTominay. Solskjaer told MUTV in his pre-match interview: "He [Matic] got injured during one of the training sessions a few days ago.

"We tried to get him fit for the game but it was not to be. He will probably be out for a couple of weeks, but we will manage without him.

"Scott has played in these games before. He is an Academy kid who knows the importance of this game. He has got some of the same attributes that Nemanja has, so I am sure he will slot in there and do well."

The other change from the 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge is the return of David De Gea in goal. Sergio Romero has been United's FA Cup goalkeeper this season but the Spaniard is back to face Jurgen Klopp's men and will be looking to secure his 100th clean sheet in the Premier League by thwarting the Merseysiders.

United’s back four remains the same as the one that kept Chelsea out on their own manor to enable the Reds to progress to the FA Cup quarter-finals. The attack from that game is retained with Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku again supported by Juan Mata.

Solskjaer said in his Friday pre-match press conference to preview the Liverpool blockbuster that Jesse Lingard would be okay, despite missing the Chelsea match after injuring his hamstring against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The England winger is fit again and on the bench but Anthony Martial, who pulled a groin in the PSG game, isn’t ready for a comeback. The caretaker boss confirmed this on MUTV, revealing: "They both trained yesterday. Anthony didn't get through the session. Jesse was okay but it is still a little bit too early to think about 90 minutes for him."
