Erik ten Hag

Team news for Palace v United

Thursday 19 September 2024 17:00

Manchester United are aiming to maintain our positive recent form as we travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

It's been a good week for Erik ten Hag and his squad, with Southampton and Barnsley convincingly dispatched, 3-0 and 7-0 respectively.

There has been further welcome news at Carrington, following the return of Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount to training after injury.

Hojlund is yet to feature in a competitive match this season, while Mount has been on the sidelines since the Brighton & Hove Albion game four weeks ago, but the pair will be assessed ahead of the weekend and could potentially be involved.

"It's very good news,” Erik said in his pre-match press conference. “They are back on the pitch, they are back in team training and, yeah, we have to decide whether they are fit enough to start. But I think it's very pleasing they are back with the squad.

“We have so many games also in this block to cover, so yeah, very happy. They did a couple of training [sessions]. We will have to see how they recover, and then, tomorrow, we will make a final call."

Double fitness boost for Reds

Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund train with the squad following the win over Barnsley.

The boss was able to make eight changes to his side for our midweek meeting with the Tykes, as only Diogo Dalot, Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford retained their places in the XI.

Competition for a starting berth is high and, while deadline-day arrival Manuel Ugarte enjoyed a full debut under the lights, Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo were unused substitutes at Old Trafford and will have had a full week off by the time we play in the capital.

Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro are set to be missing for the Reds, as we aim to put May's chastening 4-0 defeat in south-east London firmly behind us.

PALACE TEAM NEWS

Oliver Glasner made three changes to his side for Tuesday’s 2-1 Carabao Cup victory at Queens Park Rangers, with Eberechi Eze scoring the winning goal against his former club.

Summer signing Eddie Nketiah also registered his maiden Eagles goal in west London, but fellow new arrival Trevoh Chalobah is still awaiting a debut after picking up a muscle injury during his first training session.

The former Chelsea defender has again been ruled out and Cheick Doucoure has joined an injury list that also contains Chadi Riad (knee ligaments) and Matheus Franca (fractured rib). Rob Holding has also been unavailable in recent weeks.

"He [Doucoure] has some [injury] to do with the tendon on the toe," Glasner said on the official Palace website. "We will miss him for several weeks.

"The tendon has to heal, so it’s a little bit of a bad situation for him, but he will be back in a few weeks."

Highly rated England international Adam Wharton is available, though, after being rested on Tuesday night.
