Team news for Clarets Carabao Cup clash

Tuesday 20 December 2022 15:08

Manchester United's plans for the resumption of domestic action, against Burnley on Wednesday, have become clearer after our latest training session at Carrington.

The Reds host the Championship leaders in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday night (20:00 GMT kick-off), with Erik ten Hag assessing his options following the return of most of the players involved at the World Cup finals.

A training camp in Spain has helped the other members of the squad to prepare for the tie, which presents a tricky challenge against Vincent Kompany's men, who have been playing since 11 December and quickly regained their rhythm, with back-to-back wins over QPR and Middlesbrough.

There were 25 players spotted at our base on Tuesday afternoon, including the England contingent of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

Brazilians Casemiro, Fred and Antony were also present, with Tyrell Malacia back from Netherlands duty. Although Bruno Fernandes was out on the grass, fellow Portugal international Diogo Dalot was not part of the main group.

Christian Eriksen (Denmark) and Facundo Pellistri (Uruguay) are also among those in the fold after their exertions in Qatar.

The likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial have kept fit and firing during the Spanish training camp. Brandon Williams made his comeback from injury in the friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis.

Youngsters Rhys Bennett, who came off at half-time of the Under-21s' Premier League International Cup tie with PSV Eindhoven on Monday, Zidane Iqbal and Alejandro Garnacho, our last goalscorer before the break, were also part of the group.

Five keepers were at training - David De Gea, Martin Dubravka, who made his debut in the previous round, Tom Heaton, Nathan Bishop and Radek Vitek.

BURNLEY'S TEAM NEWS

The Championship leaders will be in a relaxed mood ahead of the contest as they have only lost twice all season and sit in a healthy position at the top of the table.

An appeal against Connor Roberts's suspension for the red card he received against Middlesbrough has been successful but this relates to league games anyway.

Fellow full-back Vitinho is out through injury and there are doubts over Nathan Tella and Scott Twine.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell may keep goal, with Ashley Barnes an option to lead the attack, ahead of the in-form Manuel Benson. Anass Zaroury has been at the World Cup with Morocco.
