Ole reveals team news for second leg

Wednesday 17 March 2021 13:20

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained the selection of a 20-man squad for the Europa League round-of-16 second leg.

The manager has clarified that he still has a number of doubts going into the tie, even if the likes of Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek made the flight to Italy.

Edinson Cavani suffered a reaction in the final training session and ended up not being risked, while Eric Bailly has a problem that needs to be assessed. Juan Mata and Phil Jones are unavailable again.

"There are a couple we need to assess if they are available," said Ole. "Anthony Martial is a definite no-go. Apart from that, we're assessing them as we speak. Some might travel but we're still needing to confirm that they are available still.

“As I've said, we're assessing them. They've been involved with the training session and then let's see tomorrow if there is any reaction or not. They all trained yesterday and trained today. Hopefully, there is no reaction.”

When asked about talk about van de Beek's future following some press reports this week, Ole replied: "There's always speculation.

“Donny has been focusing really hard and is working hard to get back to be available for the latter stage of the season now. That's our focus.

“Shola [Shoretire] will be playing for the Under-23s [on Friday at Tottenham, live on MUTV 12:00 GMT kick-off], so we felt it was right for him. Eric is being assessed. With regards to decision-making on what team we're going to play, let's see how everyone feels tomorrow.”
