Erik ten Hag

Team news for United v Luton Town

Friday 10 November 2023 13:30

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Jonny Evans will be absent for Manchester United's Premier League meeting with Luton Town on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland international was forced off just 13 minutes into the Reds' eventful 4-3 defeat to FC Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Evans pulled up off the ball and had to be replaced by Raphael Varane and the full extent of the issue is yet to be determined.

Ten Hag admitted though that the problem for the 35-year-old will definitely keep him out of the fixture with the Hatters.

The injury could also jeopardise his involvement in the upcoming final round of Euro 2024 qualifiers for the Green and White Army.

“So we don’t have, in this moment, the full assessment and all the details but, tomorrow, he is out,” Erik said in his pre-match press conference.

“I can’t say [if he can go away with Northern Ireland] as we don’t have the finished assessment.”

Varane seems the most likely replacement, given his substitute appearance in Denmark, but Victor Lindelof is also available once again in the Premier League.

The Swede sat out of last Saturday's 1-0 win at Fulham through illness, while Marcus Rashford was also missing for that game but is back for this encounter, as his suspension only relates to European competition.

Amad, Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw are all out until further notice.

LUTON'S TEAM NEWS

Hatters boss Rob Edwards has been hoping his injury situation clears up before the trip north.

While we await an update at his press conference, it would appear likely that Mads Andersen, Reece Burke and Dan Potts will miss out. Amari'i Bell and Albert Sambi Lokonga have both had thigh problems but could be back in contention for Saturday.
