Team news for West Ham test

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has supplied an update on his plans for Saturday's Premier League encounter with West Ham United.

The Reds go into the 15:00 GMT kick-off at Old Trafford on the back of a 3-1 win at Brentford and it's a fixture which allows Ralf's men the chance to leapfrog the Hammers in the table with a victory, ahead of the international break causing a pause in domestic action.

Rangnick was without the likes of Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Paul Pogba, Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani for the midweek trip to London, while Scott McTominay was substituted late on after receiving a painful knock to his back.

"Jadon didn't train because he still asked to be able to not train," said the boss in his press conference. "He attended the [family] funeral on Wednesday. It's still affected him quite a lot. He's expected back today at three o'clock. Right now, I'm not sure if he will be available because it was an important member of the family, someone he was close to all his life. We've got to wait and see and speak after training."

Full-backs Shaw and Wan-Bissaka are definitely still out, with Ralf confirming Alex Telles and Diogo Dalot are set to keep their places. Another defender who is unavailable is Victor Lindelof, due to personal reasons, after a break-in at the Sweden captain's home.

“I spoke with him at length on our flight back home from London," said Rangnick. "Also, this morning, we spoke for about 20, 25 minutes this morning. He told me what had actually happened and that this was a traumatic event especially for his wife and three-year-old son.

“He said to me that he right now needs to stay at home. He doesn't want to leave his wife and family on their own, which I can fully understand, being a father of two children myself. We agreed that he will not be training today and won't be available tomorrow for the game.”

Harry Maguire came off the bench at the Brentford Community Stadium and would be an obvious replacement for Lindelof, partnering Raphael Varane. Eric Bailly is, of course, still on Africa Cup of Nations duty, as is Hannibal.

WEST HAM'S TEAM NEWS

The visitors could receive a boost with the return of Tomas Soucek and Kurt Zouma, after both missed the home loss to Leeds United last time out. Algeria are out of the Africa Cup of Nations, after losing to Ivory Coast, but it would appear unlikely that Said Benrahma will be involved this weekend.

Angelo Ogbonna is still out with a knee problem and Mark Noble could also be absent.

"It's helped having the extra days of recovery and that has been good for us," said manager David Moyes. "Hopefully that shows.

"Tomas Soucek came back from COVID. We're not quite sure yet if he's ready so we need to try and assess that."
