Team news update for Saturday
Lisandro Martinez is expected to be fit for Manchester United's first away game of the season, at Tottenham on Saturday.
The Argentina international has trained at Carrington ahead of the 17:30 BST kick-off, with the Reds looking to build on the opening victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday.
Erik ten Hag spoke after the game and suggested his reason for withdrawing the centre-back at half-time of the 1-0 victory was primarily because both he and left-back Luke Shaw were on yellow cards and Wolves were offering a threat on the counter down that flank.
However, the defender was also thought to have taken a knock during the opening 45 minutes.
When asked if Martinez is available, during his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag replied: "He was just training [on Thursday], so I think so. Yeah."
Victor Lindelof was the South American's replacement for the second half against Wolves, slotting in alongside matchwinner Raphael Varane.
The Reds had a behind-closed-doors friendly with Everton on Tuesday to help improve the fitness of various squad members, and this proved beneficial.
"I think it's very helpful to give players the minutes at the start of the season," he said. "To come back to 90 minutes after pre-season. It's not that we had a pre-season for six weeks. It was, more or less, four or five weeks.
"So we need such games to give all the players the opportunity to get into the season."
In terms of players expected to miss out, Amad and Kobbie Mainoo face stretches on the sidelines after sustaining injuries whilst out in the US on tour. New striker Rasmus Hojlund is working hard to be in a position to make his debut after arriving from Atalanta but Saturday looks certain to come too soon for him.
Goalkeeper Tom Heaton is out for the "the first few weeks" of the campaign but Dean Henderson was fit enough to be on the bench against Wolves, as Andre Onana's deputy.
Anthony Martial was another unused substitute - he did not appear throughout pre-season but is available again as an option in attack.
TOTTENHAM'S TEAM NEWS
There is no Harry Kane any more for Spurs, following the star striker's sale to Bayern Munich, but several new faces played in the opening 2-2 draw at Brentford, namely keeper Guglielmo Vicario, full-back Destiny Udogie, central defender Micky van de Ven and playmaker James Maddison, who assisted both Tottenham goals.
The big question mark was over Cristian Romero, who opened the scoring but sustained a head injury, but the defender is set to play.
"Cristian is good to go," confirmed boss Ange Postecoglou. "Obviously, he's been in the hands of the medical team going through all the protocols. He's ticked all the boxes and felt fine all week. Aside from that, no change from last week."
Tanguy Ndombele may be available but Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentancur and Bryan Gil are all sidelined.
