Confirmed: United's line-up to face Roma

Thursday 06 May 2021 18:45

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made three changes to the side that beat Roma last week.

The Reds pulled off an incredible second half last Thursday as we secured an impressive 6-2 advantage going into tonight's second leg at the Stadio Olimpico.

With a four-goal lead ahead of the return leg in the Europa League semi-final, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has opted to alter his team slightly.

Eric Bailly, Mason Greenwood, Donny van de Beek are starting in Rome, with Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford moving to the bench.

The boss says he has picked a team to try and dominate Roma...

Greenwood, who scored our sixth and final goal seven days ago, make his 100th appearance for the first team as he makes his way into Ole's starting eleven in the place of Rashford, who gets a rare rest.

In his pre-match interview for club media, Solskjaer said: "He's a very special talent and we know he's going to be special for us. Hopefully he can cap his 100th game for us with a good performance and if he plays well, I wouldn't bet against him not scoring."

Dutch midfielder van de Beek makes his 13th start of the campaign as he lines up next to Fred. Ivorian defender Bailly is making his 15th start of the season as he partners captain Harry Maguire at the heart of our defence.

The manager added: "Donny has been really good in training. We're going to see loads of rotations in midfield hopefully, when you've got Donny, Bruno and Paul in there, with Fred's energy as well. So, hopefully we can dominate and that's the key. We know we're in a good position after the first two halves but there are still two halves to play."

Meanwhile, none of the three Roma players who had to be substituted in the first half at Old Trafford last week - Pau Lopez, Jordan Veretout and Leonardo Spinazzola - have made the line-up for the return leg. Paulo Fonseca has therefore been forced to alter both his selection and set-up, as he moves away from a back three to a back four.

Antonio Mirante is between the sticks, Bruno Peres is at right-back and Bryan Cristante moves into midfield. Amadou Diawara is out of the Roma squad tonight, so Gianluca Mancini lines up next to Cristante in the middle. Pedro is on the left of the hosts' attack, having come on as a substitute at the Theatre of Dreams.
