We can reveal that Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial will all start Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Everton today.

Unfortunately, Jesse Lingard is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19. He is isolating in line with Government and Premier League Guidelines.

There will be 55,000 fans at Old Trafford today and supporters without a ticket can of course watch the 12:45 BST kick-off live on MUTV.

The likes of David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba all hope to feature for the first time this summer, after returning to training this week.

Our full squad list and starting XI will be officially released at 11:45 BST.

THE MANAGER'S NOTES

In his regular column for United Review, our iconic matchday programme at Old Trafford, Solskjaer writes optimistically about our squad and the season to come.

“We have built a playing squad with a good spread of ages – some really talented young lads, some very experienced senior professionals and some who are right in their prime – but what unites everyone, both the players and the staff, is the hunger and enthusiasm that we all have for success," says Ole. “We are all ready to take that next step on our journey, and that requires constant evolution.

“We have already significantly strengthened our squad for the 2021/22 campaign with returning players and the signings of Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho, and the impending arrival of Raphael Varane will bring another new dimension to our collective approach.

“There is plenty of cause for optimism and excitement ahead of the new campaign, and we know that we will have to consistently be at our best to get results this season. When I was a player, you could virtually bank on United or Arsenal winning the league every year, but now the division has so many strong teams that it’s very hard to call.

“As ever, Everton’s visit will undoubtedly be a stern test for us today but that’s exactly what we want and need before the new campaign gets off and running. I hope you all enjoy the game.”

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

Bruno Fernandes: “The standard of Everton is really high and after that there is one week before we start. It will be good to have a last test against a Premier League club with high standards and really good, quality players.”
