Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is joining fellow Premier League side Luton Town on a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old has ended his 14-year association with the Reds by linking up with the Hatters during their first-ever Premier League season.

Having joined United as a seven-year-old, Teden rose through our Academy system and has represented the club in every age group including the senior team.

Mengi featured predominantly for our Under-21s last season, turning out seven times in our Premier League 2 and EFL Trophy campaigns.

He made his debut for our men's team against LASK Linz in the Europa League back in 2020, appearing as a late substitute in our 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.

Teden made his second and final senior appearance for the Reds a year later, during our final UEFA Champions League group-stage match against Young Boys in 2021, replacing Luke Shaw just after the hour mark.

The centre-back made two appearances in Premier League 2 this season, against Crystal Palace and Leeds United.

He is now set to gain his first taste of the Premier League with Luton and hopefully bolster Rob Edwards's side as they adapt to life in the top flight.

Mengi's commitment and professionalism throughout his time in our Academy will no doubt stand him in good stead as he takes the next steps of his career.

Upon his departure, Teden issued his thanks to United staff, players and supporters.

"From signing for the club that I supported at the age six to playing for them in the Champions League, it has been an incredible journey over the last 15 years," he said.

"Manchester United is a family and I have been lucky enough to be supported by some of the best team-mates and staff possible over the years. It is hard to put into words just how grateful I am to each and every one of them.

"It is tough to leave somewhere that has been such a huge part of my whole life but I am ready.

"Joining Luton Town is an amazing opportunity, it’s time to show everyone what I can do and help the team to be successful in every way possible."

Everybody at United wishes Teden all the best for his future, which we will follow with keen interest.
