Mengi keen to explore loan options

Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is hoping to head out on loan again, when the transfer window opens in the new year.

The centre-back has returned from injury and helped the Under-21s progress in the Papa Johns Trophy, thanks to a penalty shootout triumph against Wolves on Tuesday night.

With the scores goalless after 90 minutes, defences were on top and a clean sheet on the road was something that the Academy graduate will be pleased with, as he continues to work his way back to 100 per cent fitness.

Teden Mengi is asked about our Papa Johns Trophy triumph at Wolves and his growing fitness...

"Every game, I'm feeling fitter, stronger, sharper," he told club media, following the game at Wolves. "So yeah, I think I'm standing myself in good stead for January, if the option comes up for me to get an opportunity to go out on loan and impress and get some more experience, then I'll take it."

The tie represented a second outing in this season's competition for the defender, who also played against Fleetwood Town in October.

Mengi has already had two loans spell away from Old Trafford, playing under Wayne Rooney at Derby County before moving to Birmingham City, earlier this year.

The Championship experience has proved extremely valuable for the 20-year-old, who has risen through the ranks at United.

In terms of senior involvement for the Reds, the Mancunian has come off the bench twice - in the European games against LASK Linz (2020) and Young Boys (2021).
