Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has explained why we have signed Altay Bayindir.

It was confirmed on Friday morning that the goalkeeper has joined until June 2027, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance.

Last season, 25-year-old Bayindir played an important role as Fenerbahce won the Turkish Cup and finished second in the Super Lig. He proudly becomes our first-ever player from Turkey.

SIGNING INTERVIEW | Altay Bayindir on joining United, idolising Edwin van der Sar and being supported by his family...

Speaking in a press conference to preview Sunday’s Premier League blockbuster against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, Ten Hag discussed the process that led to Altay becoming a Red.

“Yeah, we followed him, scouted him very intensely and we think he has the skills to fit in Man United, to fit in English football,” the manager told journalists at Carrington.

“So, we are really glad that we signed him and we are confident that he will make a lot of progress in the coming period in the coming years and he will be a huge contribution to our game.”
Bayindir has already trained with his new United team-mates and Ten Hag has confirmed he will be in the squad to face Arsenal in London this weekend.

Kick-off against the Gunners is scheduled for 16:30 BST and you can listen to live radio commentary in the United App, on ManUtd.com or via MUTV.

SETTLING IN NICELY

In his signing interview, Bayindir explained he is already feeling at home in our goalkeeping union.

"Yeah, of course. I spoke with Tom Heaton [on] my first day," he said. "He is a quality person. He said ‘if you need something, you can tell me about everything’. He is a very good person and I am thinking the same about every goalkeeper and we are a team.

"We are together now. We will fight together and with Onana, with Tom Heaton, and with young goalkeepers, we are family. We are on the pitch together. We will fight for Manchester United."
