10 United players called up for international fixtures

Friday 20 November 2020 12:45

Manchester United Women's stars are set to be heavily involved in the latest round of international fixtures, with 10 Reds called up to represent their respective countries.

The most eye-catching clash sees Jackie Groenen potentially going up against team-mates Tobin Heath and Christen Press when the Netherlands host the USA in a friendly – the latter nation's first fixture since March. The Dutch then conclude their Euro 2022 qualifying campaign at home to Kosovo, having already booked their place at the tournament (rescheduled due to COVID-19) with nine wins from nine so far.

Elsewhere, Scotland trio Kirsty Smith, Kirsty Hanson and Jane Ross face two big games against Portugal and Finland, the two sides currently ahead of them in Group E. With just four points separating first from third, these could be decisive outings for the Scots, who are aiming to reach just their second European Championship.

Hayley Ladd is in the Wales squad, along with United youngsters Carrie Jones and Chloe Williams. They host Belarus in their last Euro 2022 qualifier, where a win could see them reach the play-off stages of a major tournament for the first time in their history.

Our final representative is Ona Batlle, who has been selected by Spain. They take on Moldova before playing leaders Poland, with the knowledge that four points from those two games would ensure qualification. Millie Turner, Lucy Staniforth, Ella Toone and Lauren James have been called up to an England training camp, but the Lionesses do not have a fixture booked in.
