Fletchers are a footballing first
The Fletcher family have made English top-flight footballing history.
The Times' stats expert Bill Edgar has confirmed it is the first time that two twins and their father have ever played in the top league since its inception in 1888.
It is a remarkable fact and a testament to Darren, Jack and Tyler's achievements, particularly to do this with Manchester United.
Tyler came off the bench in the closing stages of Saturday's 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
It was his fifth appearance as a senior substitute but the first time he had seen any action, ensuring the Scotland Under-18 international became our 258th Academy graduate.
He will hope to be involved again when the Reds travel to London for Tuesday night's clash at West Ham United.
Jack made his senior bow against Aston Villa, on 21 December, and has played three times for the first team.
The midfielders turn 19 next month and must be delighted with their progress.
Of course, Darren enjoyed great success with the Reds, rising through the ranks to make 347 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson, winning five Premier League titles.
Although he will be frustrated to have not been at Old Trafford to witness Tyler's big moment, Darren was overseeing his Under-18s side's 2-1 away win at Middlesbrough and must be so proud of his sons.
Fletcher: It’s the best day ever!
You’ll love this emotional interview with Tyler Fletcher, our 258th Academy graduate…
The only previous father-and-son combination to represent United's first team was John Aston Snr and John Aston Jnr.
Brothers to have turned out for the Reds at senior level include Brian and Jimmy Greenhoff and George and Martin Buchan.
More recently, Gary and Phil Neville enjoyed fabulous careers here and the first twins to achieve the feat were Adam and Richard Eckersley.
However, as Adam's sole outing was a League Cup tie against Barnet, Rafael and Fabio took the record of being the first for us in the Premier League.
Michael and Will Keane, currently with Everton and Reading respectively, also managed to repeat the feat, after winning the FA Youth Cup together in 2011. Michael made one league appearance, against Sunderland.
Congratulations to the Fletcher family for an incredible achievement!
